Readers can discuss and rate stories, the stories with the highest ratings are then printed in the paper version

This is very exciting and probable future publishing concept. To let bloggers themselves upload content of their choice and use crowdsourcing through rating to decide which posts get published. User generated content together with curated content are the two key factors of future publishing, both online and in printed media. Since printed news media need to reinvent itself to coexist with online media I can see this progressing to include even news media. Why not distribute once/couple of times a week a printed version of, for example, the most read and commented online articles, curated by the editorial staff. There’re so many opportunities… one just first have to start seeing the opportunities. What’s going on right now is already taken care of the real-time web.

We’ve already had a similiar experiment earlier this summer in Sweden. Sofia Mirjamsdotter aka Mymlan, the Swedish blogger and social media queen, launched together with Måns Adler, founder of Bambuser, a joint project to publish the best blog posts as printed version. Instead of letting people to rate which posts to get printed, the selection was done by the editor. The business model would consist of revenue sharing with the bloggers published.
